Sandia Park is North of I 40 on Highway 14 between Tijeras and Santa Fe on the Turquoise Trail.  Named after the Sandia Mountains, it literally means watermelon in Spanish after the Spanish who observed the mountains turn a watermelon shade of pink at dusk.  Sandia Park is a sister community of Cedar Crest with overlapping boundaries.  A short drive on the Sandia Crest Road gets you to the top of the Sandia Mountains which is over 10,000 ft.  Included in the community of Sandia Park are Paako and San Pedro Creek.  Paako is a beautiful community consisting of home sites one acre and larger.  It also surrounds the award winning golf course Paako Ridge.  San Pedro Creek just up the road consists of home sites 10 acres and larger.  Horses are permitted and nature trails run through the area.  Just across N 14 is a 5,000 acre preserve currently serving as the home of wild Spanish Mustangs.  Visit and join the New Mexico Horse project and help save our wild heritage!

From Albuquerque you could also hitch a ride on the Sandia Peak Tram, the longest tram in the world to the top of Sandia Crest for the view of your life.  You could then spend the day skiing and finish up by a round of golf at Paako Ridge!
